Should you have a question that is not answered below, then do not hesitate to contact our friendly team at Restore Datashred where we will be happy to answer your questions.

Why should we choose Restore Datashred?

As a leading and very well established company dealing with confidential waste disposal services in the UK, working with us will help to deliver your business with the security and confidence that you need to fulfil all of your obligations under the current Data Protection Act regulations.

Our commitment to delivering you with all the guarantees and securities you need for the safe disposal of your sensitive company information is second to none.

We use cutting-edge, state-of-the-art shredding technology, machines and methodologies that are backed by a full set of awards and industry accreditations. Our services are trusted by thousands of businesses up and down the country, including everyone from small business start-ups to large multinational corporations and government departments.

When you need to meet with your compliance requirements for the safe and secure disposal of your company confidential materials, there is no one better that you can trust with this job.

Is your on-site shredding service secure?

Yes. The main benefit of using our on-site shredding service is to have a guaranteed way to ensure the secure disposal of your sensitive business material without it leaving your business premises intact and in any type of usable or readable form.

By preventing your confidential paperwork or other materials leaving your premises intact, your information cannot cause a data breach, your R&D data cannot be sold to your competition, your customer and staff personal information will remain protected and not used to commit ID fraud and your reputation will not be harmed.

Do you provide chain of custody and audit protection?

You will be able to witness and have confirmation of a full audit trail throughout the final destruction of your confidential materials.

Our secure collection operatives will carry a collection note detailing the volume of data for destruction.

Once our secure shredding process has been completed you will be issued with an official Certificate of Destruction. This certificate will provide you with the details of the full chain of custody and audit trail.

Your certificate of destruction can be used as proof for auditing purposes that you have satisfied your obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 for the secure disposal of your sensitive data.

All of our on-site and off-site confidential shredding services meet with the European standard for information destruction EN15713.

Our trained team of information destruction officers are fully vetted to BS7858 standards and DBS checked.

Can I watch the shredding process?

Yes. You or one of your employees are welcome to personally witness your confidential materials being destroyed onsite. If you wish to witness the destruction at one of our depots, then this can be arranged prior to the appointment.

Being able to view the shredding process will reassure you first-hand that not a scrap of your sensitive information will leave your business premises in a usable form.

What happens to the shredded waste materials?

Don't worry that you will be left with a lot of shredded material to get rid of after our visit. We will take away all of the waste product created from the shredding process so you don't need to dispose of anything.

Not only do we tidy up after ourselves and remove the shredded materials for you, Restore Datashred has a zero-landfill policy that means that nothing we shred for you will go to landfill.

We recycle, repurpose and reuse waste products to help you and us reduce our impact on the environment. For example, your paper shreds will go to one of our recycling partner companies – a paper mill – that will take your waste paper and turn it into paper pulp that will go to produce new paper and tissue products.

Our comprehensive waste sorting process includes separating out raw materials such as base metals from plastics to be melted down again to make new components.

What preparations do we need to make for your on-site shredding service?

Many business owners ask us if they need to remove things such as metal staples, paper clips, bulldog clips, removing paper files from ring binders or removing plastic sleeves from paperwork before they can be shredded.

The answer is – no! You don't need to waste your precious time going through your paperwork searching out and removing metal clips or staples in advance of our shredding services arriving at your business premises.

Our industrial-strength shredders are built to completely destroy anything that meets the teeth of our machines and all metals and plastics will be safely removed during our recycling procedures.

Do you offer one-off shredding services or do we need to sign up for a regular service?

You do not need to sign up to an ongoing on-site shredding service with Restore Datashred. You can call us in for a one-off on-site confidential shredding appointment at a time and date that suits you.

If your company produces a lot of confidential paper waste you can book our service and have regularly scheduled visits for on-site shredding throughout the year. This is a great way to keep on top of your confidential shredding and prevent the build-up of stored paperwork on your premises that could pose a fire risk or increase your chances of a data breach.

How do we collect together our materials that need shredding?

All businesses have a responsibility to keep their confidential information safely stored and away from potential risks of ID theft and fraud. It makes good sense to have secure, lockable collection bins and cabinets to collect together your confidential waste between shredding appointments.

You can collect together your confidential material yourself using your own bags and bins, but it makes sense to use receptacles that can be secured and sealed to prevent any of your sensitive data going missing while it is being collected or stored on your premises.

Restore Datashred offer our clients a range of products for the safe collection and storage of your sensitive materials. These include a range of:

·         Secure Collection Bins

·         Secure Consoles/Cabinets

·         Security Sacks & Ties

·         Handy shred boxes

We even offer Multimedia Security Consoles where you can securely hold both paper and media products separately within the same smart and stylish secured unit.

If you require any help or advice on selecting a product that is right for your needs please contact us

You will be issued with keys for your lockable collection cabinets so you can appoint a trusted staff member to take responsibility for their safekeeping.

Our comprehensive range of collection products are offered in sleek and stylish designs and colour ranges that will complement your office décor. You can choose which shredding collection bins or cabinets you would like us to supply to your business.

What can I expect to happen when you arrive?

On the day and time of your on-site shredding booking, our mobile shredding vehicle will arrive at your business premises. Our team of BS7858 vetted Secure Collection Operatives (SCO) will be uniformed and will introduce themselves at your reception desk and will show you a proof of ID.

If you have installed a set of our secure, lockable data collection consoles and bins, then these will be unlocked by our team and the contents will be emptied into a secure wheelie collection bin.

This means that you do not need to do any physical moving or handling to collect together your shredding materials into one location. We will do all the collections for you from around your business premises.

The collection bin will be locked and taken to our on-site mobile shredding vehicle. Your confidential waste will then be directly fed into the jaws of our shredding machines and destroyed immediately in compliance with BS EN15713:2009 standards right in front of your eyes.

Once the shredding is complete you will be issued with a Waste Transfer Note and Certificate of Destruction. This documentation confirms the details of your data destruction and can be used as proof for your chain of custody and auditing purposes.

All of your shredded materials will be taken away by our mobile shredding vehicle and will then go back to our depot to be sorted and passed on to our recycling partners to be processed into new products.

Why can't I simply recycle my paperwork through my regular waste collection?

Your company is obliged by law to keep your business confidential information safe and protected from the risks of a data breach and ID theft.

While it may seem very appealing to simply throw out your old paperwork by putting it into your standard bins to be collected by your local authority waste collection service, you will be breaking the law and exposing your company to many risks.

Even if you are looking at a storeroom full of expired paperwork that is of no further use for your company, you cannot dispose of it through your council recycling services, especially if this paperwork contains any financial or personal details that you hold on your customers or staff.

The penalties for incorrect disposal of your sensitive data

The government has put legislation in place concerning the collection, use, storage and disposal of personal and financial data. This is spelt out in the Data Protection Act and the more recent GDPR updates

Under the rules of the Data Protection Act, your company has a legal duty to protect the confidential material you hold and then you are responsible for the secure dispose of it when it becomes redundant for business use.

Should your company suffer from a data breach through the incorrect storage and disposal of your confidential information, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has the authority to impose huge fines in the instance of non-compliance with current data protection legislation.

Protecting your company's reputation and standing

Just about every business is built on the success of their reputation and trustworthiness. Your company standing and how the public and other businesses see you are of great value.

Should you breach your responsibilities under data protection laws, the cost to your business can be devastating, not just financially but also the massive hit to your reputation can be very hard and will be difficult, if not impossible to recover from.

Do you really want to risk your company's reputation and customer trust by not complying with your data protection responsibilities?

With 12 data destruction centres and over 200 collection and secure mobile shredding vehicles across the UK, you can trust Restore Datashred with the final destruction of your confidential information.
