On 20 November Manchester United were subjected to a ransomware attack that proved hugely disruptive for well over a week. The Club reported itself to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), although they are confident no fan data was compromised.
Manchester United are not alone. Over the last 12 months a massive 70% of sports organisations have fallen prey to a cyber-attack, and the National Cyber Security Centre has defended the UK against over 700 cyber-attacks over the same period.
Ransomware is the method of cyber-attack on the increase at the moment. Criminals understand the information’s value to the target organisation and go for maximum impact, denying access to business-critical files and threatening to leak sensitive data. Even if the demanded ransom is paid, there is no guarantee of access being returned to the computer system or files.
Well publicised attacks such as Manchester United’s serve to highlight the critical importance of regular, off-site data back-ups. Regular back-ups won’t prevent a cyber-attack, but they will enable you to be up and running again with minimal disruption.
We offer secure off-site storage for your CDs, DVDs, magnetic tapes and computer back-up tapes. Our facilities have CCTV and 24/7 security entry systems along with a fire suppression system and temperature and humidity controls. All collections and deliveries are GPS tracked and our online tracking software will provide you with audit trails and proof of unbroken chain of custody. Alternatively, you may prefer cloud back-up facilities. In which case we have an ultra-secure, state-of-the-art data centre that can match all your cost, reliability and efficiency needs.
If you would like to speak to one of our friendly people about how we can help with your data back-ups you can contact us through our website and we will call you back, or you can call us direct on 0333 060 9158.
