Going back to your roots

Usually held in Utah, in the USA, RootsTech is an annual family history conference. This year it is coming to London and will be at ExCel from 24-26 October.

What is a family history conference? Well, over the three days of this event there will be more than 150 talks on subjects ranging from how to get started in tracing your family history and using DNA, through to ethical dilemmas and how to tell the best ten stories of your life. There are also keynote speakers including historian and TV presenter, Dan Snow, and Donny Osmond (who needs no introduction, surely!).

Restore will be running a real-time facility for event visitors to search for family who have served in the armed forces. It will be possible to search for relatives’ records and be handed a physical file within just three hours. As a demonstration of the power of great record keeping, we are thinking of filming the live search for the records of our Commercial Manager, Sian Couchman’s grandfather. This brave man was a Naval Captain during the Second World War and received an OBE for saving hundreds of lives after his ship was torpedoed. As they say, ‘watch this space’…
