Keeping safe at work

Keeping safe at work

There have been a few tweaks to the unlocking process announced over the past week or so, but the main change stands – people are still being encouraged to return to their ‘workplaces’, if it is safe for them to do so. Since many sectors (if they ever closed) have already returned, albeit in an altered state, and others still have a bar on re-opening, this instruction seems to apply largely to office workers.

As we know, all workplaces should be COVID-secure, meaning a full risk assessment must be carried out and all practicable steps must be taken to ensure the safety of those who are no longer being shielded, and those who were shielding them.

Hand washing and hygiene, along with social distancing, are the main priorities. Social distancing should remain at 2m where possible, but can drop to 1m with mitigating measures such as protective screens and having desks side by side rather than face to face.

The movement of people within the building should be minimised too. In an ideal world there’d be a one-way system and different entry/exit doors, but signage, masks and plenty of hand sanitiser available will work too.

Cleaning rotas will have to be stepped up with the new social distancing products being added to the already long list of items to be thoroughly cleaned on a more regular basis, but kitchens and vehicles and any other shared items will need to be properly cleaned after every use. Indeed, our vans are predominantly allocated to individual drivers and are sanitised after every shift.

We have added some useful social distancing solutions to our online store, including screening and freestanding walls, signage and internal queuing systems. We can also carry out site surveys and installations if you need us to.
