A Statista survey from July this year stated that: \u201cWorking from home has become the \u2018new normal\u2019 for many workers across Great Britain, with 44% of those aged between 30 and 49 advising that they were (still) working from home as of late June this year. Among younger workers, aged 16 to 29, just 28% were working from home, with 29% unable to do so at all.\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The cat\u2019s out of the bag\u2026<\/h3>\n

While this snapshot of WFH figures will have changed since 19 July when the mandate for \u2018working from home where possible\u2019 was lifted, the trend is that more businesses, in consultation with employees, are setting up hybrid working: a blend of working in the office and working at home.<\/p>\n

This is backed up by a recent paper from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Embedding new ways of working post-pandemic, which notes that around 40% of employers said they expect more than half of their workforce to work regularly from home (after the pandemic has ended). In addition, the 65% of companies that barely offered any opportunities to work at home before the pandemic, is expected to fall to around 37%.<\/p>\n

Whichever way you interpret the figures, these changes in attitude represent a significant shift. Some businesses are well prepared for changed ways of working; others have been catching up over the past 20 months; many have still to catch up.<\/p>\n
