Where are you based?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Based down in sunny Devon, my ‘home’ depot is Bedwas, though <\/span>I\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be popping into our Optima Park Head Office in London\u00a0<\/span>fairly often<\/span>, too. My role as Total Waste Manager is\u00a0<\/span>actually national<\/span>, so\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be covering plenty of miles across the country! That said, being based in the\u00a0<\/span>South West<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m<\/span>\u00a0really looking forward to getting out on the road locally to visit our SW clients and see how I can support them firsthand.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u00a0does\u00a0your job\u00a0entail?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Since 1 April last year,\u00a0government initiative, Simpler Recycling, has made it\u00a0a requirement for businesses of 10 employees or more to separate general waste into streams\u00a0to maximise recycling potential.\u00a0My job is to help customers understand their responsibilities, set up compliant recycling\u00a0systems\u00a0and promote sustainability \u2013 in short, offering a total waste service (on top of data shredding), with plenty of \u2018out of the box\u2019 thinking\u00a0(which is absolutely up my street)!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n\n

How did you start working in the recycling and waste world? <\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

I started in\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>hredding and then<\/span>, when I<\/span>\u00a0had my first daughter<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0took a break.\u00a0<\/span>When she was seven months old,<\/span>\u00a0I approached a waste company\u00a0<\/span>local to me,\u00a0<\/span>to work with them independently<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in sales a<\/span>nd account management and it\u00a0<\/span>kind of\u00a0<\/span>went<\/span>\u00a0from there<\/span>\u2026 After I while<\/span>\u00a0I had\u00a0<\/span>created\u00a0<\/span>a new career\u00a0<\/span>for myself, taking<\/span>\u00a0my baby everywhere<\/span>\u00a0with me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>That baby<\/span>\u00a0is now 10 and obsessed with waste<\/span>\u00a0and recycling!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n\r\n

What\u2019s the thing you\u00a0<\/span>like<\/span>\u00a0most about working in this industr<\/span>y?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n


<\/span>I love the<\/span>\u00a0fact recycling has a purpose for good,<\/span>\u00a0of course<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>but\u00a0<\/span>it is the people who work across the industry I<\/span>\u00a0love the most<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>E<\/span>veryone has the same thinking and drive to\u00a0<\/span>do something positive and responsible for the future of the planet (and people!).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n\r\n

What made you join Restore Datashred as Total Waste Manager?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

It is <\/span>an opportunity for me to get stuck into something new, helping Datashred grow this part of the business \u2013 and<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>believe me,\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0can be expanded from so many angles<\/span>\u00a0\u2013<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as well as guiding colleagues and customers in new directions, which<\/span>\u00a0I love\u00a0<\/span>doing.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n\r\n

What\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0one thing people would be surprised<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to learn about recycling or waste\u00a0<\/span>management that\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ve<\/span>\u00a0learnt so far<\/span>?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

For me,\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>waste crime, one of the UK\u2019s most profitable illegal activities.\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a shocker<\/span>\u00a0how many<\/span>\u00a0companies\u00a0<\/span>try to<\/span>\u00a0move waste themselves\u00a0<\/span>without<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the correct\u00a0<\/span>licences<\/span>\u00a0to do so.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>his is how fly tipping has\u00a0<\/span>got<\/span>\u00a0so out of hand<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>hink of the vast waste dump in an Oxfordshire field that made the national headlines late last year, a discovery that is only the\u00a0<\/span>tip of the iceberg<\/span>\u00a0of this type of devastation<\/span>, which is<\/span>\u00a0happening all over the country.\u00a0<\/span>It devastates local communities who\u00a0<\/span>can\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0open windows in summer for the smell and fear of pests, it\u00a0<\/span>leaches<\/span>\u00a0toxins into the soil and water\u00a0<\/span>table<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0kills wildlife and habitats.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n\r\n

When you\u2019re not thinking about waste streams and recycling, what do you like doing? <\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

I love spending ‘girly’ time with my two daughters, aged eight and ten. We often head out for lunch together, and they certainly keep me on my toes\u2014<\/span>they’ve<\/span>\u00a0even managed to get my hair tangled in brushes during their ‘makeover’ sessions! They also love a game of pool at our local pub; who knows, they might be the next Kelly Fisher! What more could a mum want?<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n\n
