Dechra Pharmaceuticals – Relocation of Laboratory

Client: Dechra Pharmaceuticals
Sector: Life Sciences

Relocation of Quality Control Laboratory from their existing onsite location to a newly constructed and specialist fitted out laboratory within their existing site. Following successful relocation of the Dechra Formulation Lab, we were invited back to undertake their main Quality Control Laboratory (QC) move programme.

The challenge was the location on the main QC lab which was located on the first floor with access only possible by the fire escape.  As part of the planning process, we agreed that the only option was to transfer the QC items by way of a fork truck from the fire escape door. This meant the removal of the safety rail at the top of the steps and a temporary rail installed. Once this had been agreed with the customer we hired our own fork lift truck and pre-made specific sized pallets that would accommodate the equipment being moved and would also fit through the fire exit door. The pallets were pre-lined with closed cell foam and the bench top equipment had been pre-wrapped by the team, placed onto the pallet and shrink wrapped for their safe journey via the fire escape.

  • Pre Planning meetings to discuss and agree a colour coded labelling strategy to ensure bench top equipment and cabinet contents were placed and or unpacking onto and into the correct locations.
  • Pre Move packing, transfer and unpacking of laboratory consumables such as glassware.
  • Pre packing, transfer and unpack of desk top Laboratory equipment including 16 x HPLC’s, Balances and
  • Chemical pack, transfer and unpack
  • The move was completed over a continuous 9 x day period including 2 x weekends.

Working along side OEM Engineers for equipment such as HPLC, Hoods, Balance’s and Copley Tablet Testing equipment we were able to coordinate the move in a sequential order to ensure each Engineer could be complete their decommission and recommission as per clients’ requirements.

Chemicals where packed, transferred and unpacked based on the clients COSH list.  Consumables such as glassware was packed as per colour coded labels which allowed for the unpacking into the colour coded zoned areas with the new Lab by glassware size.

The project was completed within the allotted schedule and budget.
