Business Relocation for Chaucer Group

Client: Chaucer Group
Sector: Insurance

Chaucer are a leading specialty (re) insurance group working with brokers, cover holders and clients to protect and support business activities around the world. They are headquartered in London, with international hubs in Copenhagen, Dubai. Miami, Dublin, Singapore and Bermuda, and a staff of 500 people worldwide, including more than 120 specialist underwriters.

To relocate 500 members of staff from two older sites and consolidate all departments into new premises at the Scalpel, Lime Street in London under tight time-frames due to a lease end at the main exit building in Leadenhall Street. As well as the move, the client also required the clearance of all legacy assets from the exit buildings with a focus on re-use and 0% landfill.

The project was broken up into three phases. Phase 1 was to relocate a host of client assets including desktop IT. monitor arms, identified items of furniture, approx 500 linear metres of filing, staff lockers and safes, together with a number of other miscellaneous client assets to a basement holding area.

As a result of UK lockdown restrictions, client staff were unable to attend the clients existing office to pack their personal effects and possessions. Moreover, as there was no fixed date for staff to return to the office at the time of the move, we had to find a solution for both the packing and inventorying of personal items and keeping them store without utilising crates – this was to avoid recurring weekly crate hire costs. in consultation with the client we devised a bespoke solution whereby we used sturdy cardboard cartons to pack and store all personal effects.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, we immediately moved to Phase 2 – the clearance of legacy assets from the exit buildings. From the outset of planning for the clearance the client was very clear in their desire for as many items as possible to be donated for re-use. We ensure that all unwanted items were treated accordingly to our 0% to landfill polity and introduced our key Charity partner – Business2Schoois to the client. Business2Schoois work with 1000’s of Schools across the UK They re-purpose and place unwanted furniture and IT equipment from large corporations by donating them to Schools for use by a broad age range of children.

In order to ensure all legacy items were removed and handled appropriately, we deployed specialist multi-skilled clearance teams to remove all identified assets including IT equipment, desking and general furniture.

Following a comprehensive planning process including identification of suitable beneficiaries by Business2Schoois and management of allocations to each of the schools, our teams commenced the removal and delivery of the legacy IT and furniture. It is important to point out that prior to delivery to the schools of the IT equipment (laptops, tablets, PC’s etc) all of the donated assets were first taken to Restore Technology for wiping and PAT testing in order to ensure that all data was cleared from their hard drives and that they were safe for re-use by the Schools.

“Giving back is a core part of our DNA at Chaucer and we are delighted to have been able to donate items to help so many schools.”
