Birmingham City Council embarked on a significant project to vacate its premises at Lancaster Circus by the end of 2023. The
scale of the move was vast, as the location housed multiple floors of office equipment, furniture, and materials. The task was not only to clear out these items efficiently but to do so with a conscious effort to minimize waste, ensure sustainable practices, and assist charitable causes. The relocation began on the 1st of August, and while it remains ongoing, substantial progress has been achieved, highlighting the project’s scope and magnitude.

Restore Harrow Green, renowned for their expertise in facilitating
seamless relocations, stepped in to spearhead the operation. A phased approach was adopted to meticulously clear each floor. So far we have completed 2 floors with the following:

  • A total of 760 desks were cleared. Notably, all desktops were managed at a cost-neutral point, with all metal components being sent for recycling.
  • 500 pedestals were cleared without incurring additional
costs. They were managed within the circular economy,
    emphasizing sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
  • 600 storage units were also cleared. While all were removed,
  • 400 were recycled, and 200 units found a new home as they were redeployed within the Birmingham City Council

As the move is still in progress, the results so far speak volumes about the efficiency, dedication, and environmental commitment of both Restore Harrow Green and Birmingham City Council:

  • Two full floors of the Lancaster Circus have been efficiently cleared, demonstrating the project’s pacing and timeliness.
  • A sustainable approach has been prioritised, with items either being recycled, redeployed, or donated, ensuring minimal wastage and a reduced environmental footprint.
  • Charitable contributions reflect the ethos of community engagement, enhancing the project’s social impact.
