Navigating the Relocation Landscape in Birmingham: Community, Growth & Circular Progress

By Elizabeth Russell, Head of Relocation Services – Midlands

Birmingham is more than just the UK’s second city – it’s a vibrant and evolving hub of enterprise, innovation and cultural legacy. At Restore Harrow Green, we’re proud to play an active role in supporting organisations across the region as they reshape their workspaces and reposition themselves for future success.

Whether we’re relocating a government office in Selly Oak, moving life sciences labs across Edgbaston’s medical district, or supporting archive conservation projects in the Jewellery Quarter, our Birmingham team brings expert knowledge and care to every project.

A Shifting Business Landscape

The way Birmingham businesses work has changed. We’ve seen increased demand for hybrid-ready workspaces, smart downsizing, and agile workplace strategies – and each transition requires thoughtful relocation support. We help organisations manage change with minimal disruption, supporting everything from specialist logistics to IT decommissioning and furniture reuse.

Our collaboration with the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce also means we’re actively supporting the wider regional agenda – advocating for sustainability, social value, and business resilience through every move we undertake.

Laboratory Relocations: Supporting Birmingham’s Life Science Sector

With a growing life sciences footprint in and around Edgbaston and the wider West Midlands, our team regularly delivers secure and compliant lab relocations for healthcare, biotech, and academic institutions.

Our expert crews are trained to handle the complex and high-stakes nature of lab relocations, from the transport of sensitive chemicals and biological samples to the specialist handling of freezers, fume hoods, and precision instruments. We understand the regulatory and safety implications of lab logistics and offer seamless project management, packing, compliance, and disaster recovery services.

Whether relocating a single freezer or a complete research facility, we help Birmingham’s science and innovation leaders move safely and with confidence.

Preserving the Past: Heritage Moves in Birmingham

Birmingham’s cultural institutions – from libraries and galleries to historical archives – trust Restore Harrow Green to manage specialist moves with the sensitivity and professionalism they require. Our teams are trained in the handling and transport of delicate artefacts, rare books, display cabinets, and irreplaceable museum collections.

Recent projects have seen us support national and local heritage organisations with bespoke crating, secure storage, and environmentally controlled logistics – ensuring history is preserved during every transition.

Giving Back: Proud Sponsors of Bulls in the City

We’re thrilled to be part of the 2025 Bulls in the City trail – Birmingham’s next big art event, delivered by Wild in Art and Birmingham Hospice. Restore Harrow Green is sponsoring one of the 40 bespoke bull sculptures, which will stampede through the city from July to September 2025.

Our bull will feature a design that’s especially iconic to Birmingham – and we can’t wait for everyone to see it!

These vibrant, larger-than-life bulls – inspired by the legendary Bullring sculpture – will be auctioned off to raise funds for Birmingham Hospice, which provides free expert palliative and end-of-life care across the region.

It’s a powerful initiative uniting business, art and community. As relocation professionals, it’s in our nature to move things – but this time, we’re helping to move hearts, minds, and community spirit.

Circular Economy in Action

Behind the scenes, we’re committed to responsible relocation and clearance. Our Birmingham team regularly supports clients with ethical reuse, donation and recycling schemes – ensuring that redundant office furniture, IT equipment and lab materials are kept out of landfill and instead find new life in schools, charities, and community hubs.

This commitment aligns with our national zero-to-landfill strategy, helping organisations reduce their carbon footprint while creating tangible social impact.
