Ethical IT lifecycle services
Our commitment to sustainability

Sustainable IT

At Restore Technology we recognise our responsibilities to the environment, striving to ensure our services are as ethical and responsible as possible.

These services, in turn, provide significant environmental benefits to the clients we provide them to.

We are fortunate that the hard work we put into our own services can also help support our clients’ ESG strategies.

How we process old and unusable assets

IT collections

Collection

We begin by collecting the assets from our customer, before distributing them to our facilities in GPS-tracked vans.

There the assets can be dealt with securely.

IT data erasure

Processing

Any reuseable assets will have their data securely erased using industry certified software.

They'll be refurbished and reintroduced to market, giving them a second life.

IT disassembly

Disassembly

Anything not suitable for resale will be sent to our Bristol facility, which is highly accredited for electrical waste processing.

Assets are disassembled so each component can be recycled.

IT segregation

Segregation

All components are separated into their various waste streams.

Each must be recycled in the correct manner in order to reclaim materials and protect the environment.

IT reclamation

Reclamation

Components are sent to our carefully vetted recycling partners, who will reclaim their materials, from copper to plastic to gold!

Want to know more?

We only use vetted UK recycling providers with full permits and accreditations.

Nothing we process ever leaves the UK. We send circuit boards off for precious metal reclamation, including gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Hard drives are shredded and the aluminium is reclaimed. Cables are processed for their copper whilst heat shields are removed from mainboards for additional aluminium and copper.

Low grade plastics such as keyboards and mice are sent for plastic recycling, and any lead acid batteries have their lead recycled and the acid safely disposed of. Data tapes are sent to an 'energy from waste' facility for energy recovery.

Finally the bodies of machines are harvested for steel - in an average month we produce 50,000 kg of it!

Recycling in this way means every component is dealt with in the best possible manner.

At Restore Technology we reuse everything we can, from the pallets which transport our assets through to the packaging itself, even the paper in our printers is reclaimed from devices which arrive as waste!

IT landfill

E-waste in the UK

Recent research suggests that the United Kingdom generates the world's second largest quantity of electronic waste per person. This is hugely problematic for the environment, with e-waste contributing to air and water pollution as well as global warming through the emission of greenhouse gases.

Companies throughout the UK are more determined than ever to ensure their services are sustainable, and we are able to support these businesses through the provision of secure, ethical IT recycling.

As the UK's leading ITAD provider, we can carry out IT asset services at the very highest levels of security, with national reach and a commitment to sustainability and community support.

Zero to landfill

We operate a zero to landfill policy, with processes in place to ensure the assets we handle are dealt with in the most environmentally-friendly manner. Our preferred method of data destruction is erasure using certified software, as this is a 100% reliable process which also allows the asset to have a new life elsewhere. Where an asset cannot be reintroduced to market, we will work with our downstream waste partners to ensure that the asset is recycled responsibly. We comply fully with all environmental regulations, including the WEEE directive.

Custom sustainability reports

Our customer service portal, Streams®, allows our customers to track their services and access documentation. Another popular feature of the portal is the ability to generate your own sustainability report. Our system calculates the environmental benefits of your IT reuse and recycling, and breaks them down in a variety of ways. You can see how much you have recycled in kilograms and how this is broken down by material. You can see how much environmental impact you’ve avoided in terms of CO2 output, air contamination, landfill, and water pollution. We show your equivalent energy saving in terms of the annual energy supply of a typical home, or the annual emissions of a standard car. Lastly we even show how many waste toxins you’ve diverted, from lead to mercury or zinc. These positive achievements can be shared with your staff or clients to show off your good work.

Solar power & more

We believe we operate the most advanced facility for IT recycling services in the UK. We built our state-of-the-art facility to meet the specific demands of our customers, and as part of the process we ensured that solar power would be a major aspect of our operations. We have 61 solar panels which help power our recycling processes, allowing us to harness clean energy to power our environmentally friendly services. In addition, we also make use of smart lighting and water saving technology to make our processes as green as possible.
