Laptops Donation Case Study

donation of 1000 laptops to schools and charity

The Plan

We worked with National Grid on a fantastic enterprise which would see the donation of laptops to underprivileged school children and young adults across the UK. The project would also involve the support of a number of charities, and would need to be carried out during the Covid-19 crisis in order to allow for home learning at a time when these students may otherwise have been unable to keep up with their studies.

The Project

Headed up by National Grid, it was decided that a donation of 1000 laptops would be distributed to primary and secondary schools across the UK, as well as a youth charity. Restore Technology handled the sourcing of these laptops, taking many from our own stock whilst using our network of contacts to order in the remainder. In total, the laptops were worth over £200,000.

We then processed the laptops, cleaning and testing them before installing Windows 10 on every device. Once complete, we carried out the distribution process, delivering them to each of the required locations.

It was decided that eight hundred of the laptops would be delivered to the various primary and secondary schools, with the rest being sent to youth charity, The Prince’s Trust.

In response, Ian Jeffers, Deputy CEO of the Prince’s Trust explained that the laptops would “make a significant difference to what our young people can achieve in the coming weeks and months and will be a key way for our network of volunteer mentors and youth workers to stay connected with young people during lockdown.”

Steve Talbot, MD of Restore Technology said “We are delighted to have been able to provide support on such an exciting project, and to know that the donated laptops are helping children keep in touch with their teachers during the lockdown. Once the schools have reopened and the laptops have been returned to the schools, they will be available to the students for continued use, and we hope the laptops are able to support students for years to come.”

We’d like to thank National Grid and the various charities involved for their work on this enterprise.
