WATCH: Taking the first UK mental health trust digital

Restore Information Management recently joined Health Tech News (HTN) to share our award winning work with the Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust – helping the Trust to go from storing piles of paper records, to implementing a digital system, becoming the UK’s first mental health to digitise their active patient records in the process.

Panellists included Carl Starbuck, Head of Information Governance and Data Protection Officer for LYPFT and Restore Information Management’s Stefan Chetty, Director of Digital Services; Ted Reynolds, Head of Healthcare for Digital Services; Claire Colraine, National Account Manager; and Andrew Robertshaw, Implementation Manager.

The panel not only discussed the challenges of digitising a mental health trust but also outlined the distinct phases of the project. Ted detailed how the trust conducted a thorough requirements analysis and carried out an exercise to map internal processes, logistics, and available resources. Carl expanded on this, attributing the project’s success to “quality partners,” the organisation’s strong commitment, and “clinical backing right to the top.”

Watch the webinar in full to hear from the team on the challenges they faced, including scanning over 3 million pages whilst keeping the process data compliant, and the nuance of digitising the paper records of a mental health trust.

The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which Carl provided further insights into the process. He explained how the clinical decision was made regarding which records to migrate and described the steps taken to ensure data quality throughout the transformation—contributing to the project’s award-winning success!

"Quality partners, that’s how we made this work. There were a lot of moving parts in this project. The sheer volume of scanning was colossal."
