Restore Datashred partners with Volta Trucks

It’s electrifying!

First of all, let’s take a look at some figures:

· 160 – number of HGVs, LGVs and vans, including a mini-fleet of Shred-Tech MDX-3 mobile shredding trucks, in Restore Datashred’s mixed fleet
· 100,000 – number of tonnes of materials we shred annually
· 3,500,000 – number of miles the Restore Datashred fleet covers each year
· 120,000 – number of litres of fossil fuel currently consumed by the Restore Datashred fleet every month.

We’re busy. We make collections in city centres, from trading estates, from remote workers in more remote locations, ensuring secure, safe disposal of our customers’ confidential data and assets either on site or at one of our 12 dedicated shredding centres across the country. We cover a lot of miles and consume many litres of fossil fuel every month and, even though reducing our impact on the environment is one of our key company objectives, until recently we had not been convinced there were commercial EVs suitable for the services we provide.

Enter Volta Trucks, a UK and Sweden-based company, who are manufacturing the Zero – the first purpose-built fully electric large commercial vehicle.

We have joined Volta Trucks’ Pioneer Programme and are one of six businesses who will be trialling the capabilities and efficiencies of this new EV vehicle in our day-to-day activities, including helping us deliver a zero-carbon footprint over the coming years.

The Volta Zero has been designed as an EV from the outset to reduce the environmental impact of freight deliveries and collections, having a range of 150-200kms and eliminating CO2 emissions. The design also makes the most of not having a large combustion engine to accommodate to enable a new, central driving position, lower seat height and vastly improved visibility, thus adding significantly overall to vehicle and pedestrian safety.

Restore Datashred’s Head of Fleet, Ian Walsh, commented: “Now is a great time to be ‘going electric’, given current market rates for fuel vs. electricity. I’m delighted to work with Volta Trucks on this project that helps us take a step into the future. They can offer us environmentally sound vehicles that make our desire to become carbon neutral in the near future feasible. The process of taking our fleet over to electric will happen more quickly and smoothly, we believe, by partnering with Volta Trucks. We will be offering our customers the same service but with improved environmental credentials and more cost efficiency for us.”

We will start evaluating the Volta Zero in the first quarter of next year. Watch this space for updates!
