Stefan Chetty, Director of Public Sector Services at Restore Information Management recently participated in a panel discussion with Health Tech News about the pragmatic approach that can be taken to digitise NHS records.
We have been working with Health Tech New for the last year. HTN is an innovative platform for the health tech community, and they offer a unique perspective on health technology through various channels.
The conversation covered topics such as what to consider for successful transformation, what is working well and why, and what is key to achieving future NHS transformation aspirations.
Stefan was joined on the panel by Dr Tamara Everington, Chief Clinical Information Officer and Haematology Consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Emily Lucas (Innovation Facilitator) and Dr Julia Dawson (Innovation Lead) at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust; and Matt Sim, Head of IT Design Restore Information Management.
The conversation moved from discussing the challenges Trusts face with current files, to where they are on their journey towards a digital solution. The conversation then transitioned to the topic of what good looks like before finishing off around their hopes for the future.
Key takeaways
- Up to 30 percent of notes that are required for clinic are actually located somewhere around the hospital. That leads to the creation of temporary notes, duplication, and more paper means more loose filing and a question of where that goes.
- According to the ERIC (estates, return, information, collection) data, over 200,000 square metres’ worth of space is taken up by medical records within trusts across the UK. Based on a private room being 16 square metres, that’s over 10,000 bed spaces.”
