Welcoming Manchester University Students for the day

We were pleased to welcome students from the University of Manchester’s Library and Archives Studies Master’s programme to our sites for the third year running.

The visit gave students the opportunity to see how records and information management theory is applied in a real commercial environment, bringing to life the principles covered in their Records and Information Management Practice module.

During the day, students were introduced to Restore Information Management and our end-to-end approach to managing information across both physical and digital environments. This included an overview of our heritage, our national infrastructure, and the breadth of services we provide, including outbound communications.

The group then toured our facilities to see first-hand how physical records are securely organised, stored and managed at scale, and how commercial and public sector projects are delivered in practice. Students also learned about specialist archive services and how integrated teams work alongside organisations managing complex and sensitive collections.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to digital services. Students were introduced to our digital strategy, large-scale scanning operations, and the processes we use to manage high volumes of information securely and accurately. A tour of our digital facilities demonstrated how technology, governance and robust workflows come together to support customers across a wide range of sectors.

The day concluded with a Q&A session exploring common industry challenges, including information governance, scale, compliance, and the importance of consistent processes across physical and digital records.

The visit highlighted the breadth of careers within information management and provided students with valuable insight into how the industry operates in practice.

“The visit was extremely successful, and our students found the experience both insightful and highly engaging. It provided a valuable opportunity to see records and information management practices in action, and to connect their academic learning with real-world operations. We are grateful for the time, care, and professionalism shown by your team throughout the day, as well as for the warm welcome and excellent organisation. We truly appreciate your continued support and partnership in contributing to our students’ academic and professional development."
