Disposing of your old laptops – and desktops, servers, hard drives, switches and routers is easy if you use Restore Technology’s secure IT disposal services. But you can make it even easier.
IT asset disposal
Compliance, security, efficiency and sustainability are key areas of concern for anyone who manages computing assets, regardless of extent or size of business. Compliance, security and the environment, in particular, are governed by law so it’s important to meet those regulatory requirements in full as these impact on your company’s reputation and, ultimately, financial health.
IT assets become a liability if you have them stacked in a cupboard or archive, somewhat abandoned to their fate. What happens to the data, residual and otherwise, written on to their hard drives?
You need to dispose of them responsibly, that much is clear, which is where Restore Technology comes in. As an industry-leading business, our expertise in secure disposal, re-marketing and recycling of all and any IT assets is undisputed and supported by a raft of accreditations, association memberships and public frameworks for your peace of mind.
Here’s our quick checklist of how to prepare so that you get best results from your asset disposal.
Organise a collection from Restore Technology. We are strategically located around the UK and can be as flexible as you need us to be.
Back up all the data contained on the machines for disposal.
Ensure you’ve got the security levels you require. Delete as much data from devices and hard drives as is possible. Restore Technology can carry out a government-approved level degaussing/data wiping service at your workplace, so hard drives, and so on, leave your premises containing precisely zero.
Remove all company tagging.

What to expect from a Restore Technology collections team
Once our uniformed, security-checked collections team is with you, they will electronically tag every piece of equipment with its own unique identifier so that it is tracked and handled in a transparent chain of custody, from your workplace to our facility, for your total peace of mind. Expect a detailed inventory receipt to be left with you, as you watch your no-longer-wanted assets loaded on to our GPS-tracked vehicles.
What happens once your assets are at Restore Technology?
It’s business as usual, for us and for you.
- We ensure all data-bearing assets are wiped, using government-approved software or physical hard drive destruction/shredding.
- As a sound environmental proposition, and in line with the WEEE Directive, any devices that can be refurbished and upgraded for another go round, either at your business, or through re-sale or donation to community groups and charities, we will carry out.
- We will segregate any clapped out or unrecoverable items and break them down into constituent, recyclable components such as plastics, glass, precious metals, metals such as steel, and so on – all with the guarantee of aiming to send 0% to landfill. Always.

ESG and more
Whichever route you choose as the best outcome for your obsolete IT assets, you will receive a certificate of erasure and disposal (for GDPR compliance), and a monthly environmental report that details landfill and recycling savings as proof of your responsible, sustainable, actions.
