Rescue Recyclables during Recycle Week 2024: 14-20 October

‘None gets left behind’ – this year, we’re talking about rescuing recyclable items from your general waste stream. Time to carry out an extraction on that tin can in your bin… We’re going in!

“There’s no point in recycling every small thing. It doesn’t make a difference.”

Oh, but it does.

  • In this country, we save 18 million tonnes of damaging CO2 a year from being released into our planet’s atmosphere by recycling.
  • Recycling tin cans saves up to 95% of the energy needed to make new ones from raw materials.
  • And paper is the gift that keeps on giving. It can usually be recycled up to seven times before the fibres become too weak but, even then, that pulp can go towards creating egg boxes, loft insulation, paint and new road surfaces.

Recycling helps reduce the need for burying waste in the ground – landfill – or other costly forms of disposal (costly financially and environmentally). Recycling reduces the need for extracting, refining and processing finite resources, aka, raw materials, thus saving energy, emissions and pollution. Recycling may like seem a small gesture, but it is, when we all make efforts to do it, a significant piece in the jigsaw of measures we need to take to tackle the climate crisis.

That’s why this year’s Recycle Week campaign theme is ‘Rescue me!’. Making the effort to rescue at least one extra recyclable item from our everyday routine – the lunchtime tin can or clean sandwich packet, say – when added up makes a huge difference overall.

Restore Datashred makes it easy to rescue recyclables

We are renowned for being a professional, accredited secure shredding business, with destruction centres across the country and a large, modern fleet for collections and high-speed mobile shredding. We have built the scale and scope to deal with anything your business’ compliance with data protection and environmental regulations requires.

We are also a major recycling business. We guarantee that 100% of the paper shreds we securely process for you go to UK paper recyclers to be made into new paper products. The textiles and digital media we shred also go for recycling and re-use, making new fabrics and materials or helping create energy.

But to really help you rescue (at least) your fair share of recycling, Restore Datashred has also launched a new service: Dry Mixed Recycling. This is where you can truly step up to the plate and add to those CO2 savings, for business, people and planet.

Restore Datashred: your complete recycling partner

Dry Mixed Recycling is simple to set up and simple to use and, in tandem with your confidential waste, the net result will mean your business is recycling even more than before and making a valid contribution to your company’s environmental goals and strategy.

How it works

  • We provide labelled recycling bins, to sit alongside your lockable confidential waste streams. These recycling bins help to avoid contamination – which is a big deal in recycling – and mean lunch items such as clean sandwich boxes and tin cans can add to your ‘rescued’ recyclables tally.
  • Set up your collections schedule to suit you, so there are no overflowing bins, no waste headache. If your colleagues and teams are enthusiastic recyclers – and that is a key aim – we can collect more frequently. Easy.
  • Our dedicated recycling customer services team can answer your questions, and give you best practice hints and tips for a successful Dry Mixed Recycling process (there are some items we simply cannot take, for instance), that helps ensure that, as far as is possible, ‘none gets left behind’.
Did you know that paper fiber can typically be recycled between 6 to 8 times and it requires 30% of the electrical energy and 70% of the water that would typically be needed to produce it from wood?

Fancy embarking on that rescue mission?

Find out the details about Dry Mixed Recycling here or by calling 0800 376 4422 – and not only could you have it set up in time for #RecycleWeek, but it is also a piece of good news to share with your colleagues and other stakeholders about meeting your ESG goals and commitments.
